Had to get a new washer/dryer last week as well as all the other crud swirling around.
Bonus-the new one doesn’t have that gross mildew smell. I bought the special washer tabs, I tried different cleaners, couldn’t get that smell out. I think they were original with the house, so about 14 years old now which isn’t bad, I just want to prevent that smell build up again- anyone got any tricks for that??
TEXT:
Lionel surged up, snapping his jaws closed an inch from Evil’s snout, but Evil didn’t react. The potato chortled, an ominous sound, and Lionel sat back and laughed, cat face agape. “What do you think happened to your brother’s actual body? Did his heart stop? Maybe a stroke? How does the brain interpret your atoms getting ripped apart? I wonder if he physically melted as well? At the very least, he must be an empty shell, perhaps a drooling vegetable.”
Evil’s eyes glazed over. If these were his last moments, he would not give that asshole lion a single reaction.
“I suppose your hapless leader will have to cull him then. The family can’t drag a useless husk around, the weakness must be excised. Do you think he’s strong enough? How will he do it?” Lionel started to pace back and forth in front of Evil, pretending to pay little attention to the bear, but peering intently from the corners of his eyes. He was starting to get annoyed at the lack of response. “I don’t think he’s got the balls to rip out your brother’s throat. He’s obviously not strong enough to lead your family. Not an alpha, is he?”
The lion suddenly lunged at Evil, opening his massive jaws and enveloping Evil’s whole head. Lionel stopped, the tips of his fangs just pressing lightly into Evil’s skull, but the bear didn’t so much as twitch. Hot carnivore breath wreathed his head, saliva dripped down one horn. Then Lionel snarled and jerked away.
“Fine! You can rot in a potato prison and we’ll see what happens to your body. I may know much about existing and manipulating this mystic environment, but I lack knowledge about the effects in the physical realm. Is your catatonic state now permanent? I look forward to returning and gloating over you and your brother’s useless corpses!” And then the potato fist grew, the arm slinking towards its back. A hatch in its rear end dropped down like a lowering drawbridge. The fist dropped Evil into the dark cavity, and then the butt hatch slowly clanged back up, and all light cut off.

So, in doing a quick search I’m seeing stuff about leaving the door open and avoiding using fabric softener (as it apparent leaves a build-up). Also seeing stuff about using vinegar in place of fabric softener and running a hot cycle with either vinegar, bleach, baking soda, or borax (just be sure not mix chemicals though).
If it’s a front loader, also make sure to wipe the seals.
Basically, the main thing I’m seeing is you have to keep up with doing occasional maintenance cleaning. From what else I’m seeing, this should be done either every 30 cycles or once a month.
Also check your manual for specifics based on your model so you don’t end up damaging your washing machine.
And on the topic of the comic, something tells me Crack isn’t out of the game yet. Now, hat state he’s in and whether he can manage to pull himself back together is a different story altogether.

Oh, and while I usually love making bad jokes, the comment about Crack “pulling himself together” wasn’t me trying to be funny or in bad taste.
I know I don’t have to point that out, but, meh. *shrugs*

Well, I’m fairly certain that Evil’s losing an arm by this chapter’s end. Poor kid… really hope he can get a decent ending by the end of this.

Easy to get mildew smell out of washers.
1. Stop using fabric softeners. Instead, fill slot with regular vinegar every time.
To deep clean washer run a cycle with hot water & add vinegar to both cycles. Repeat at least twice.
2. Front load washers need a weekly wipe down of every seal with white vinegar.
3 1x a month run an empty load ( hot water) with half a cup of baking soda. ( don’t use vinegar!)
Many of the “washer cleaners” will only mask the smell and not fix the problem. Both baking soda & vinegar will help.
4 don’t leave wet cloths in the washer. Mold can grow in less than 6 hours.
5. When you are away, take a half cup of baking soda and leave it in the washer. It will kill any mold spores.
