Happy back to school Monday around here :)  I don’t have cable and I miss those old Staples “It’s the MOST Wonderful Time of the Year” ads…I may actually go hunting for one online, lol. But also, Sam is going into grade 10 and that feels disturbingly not far enough away from graduating. This is giving me issues, and making me feel even older :(

TEXT:

Prozac rolled his eyes, “Well of COURSE you’d get bit if you stick your arm down his gullet.”

He leaned down to inspect the damage, figuring he could yank Evil out if necessary, or maybe prying Lionel’s jaws up would be better.  What was the bite force of a fully grown male?? Then he noticed the steady ooze of blood spilling from between Lionel’s impressive fangs. Prozac blanched, and looked up. Evil stared calmly back, but his face was pale and Prozac could see uncharacteristic tension in his gaze. “Evil, I’m not sure I should just pull you out… we probably need bandages…” Shit, maybe a tourniquet? Should have brought Gimp WITH us.

Evil grit his teeth. “Gimp didn’t stay behind, I told him to wait near the gnus. He would have come closer, but he knew you didn’t want him vulnerable….or anywhere near Lionel again.” Prozac closed his eyes and let out a shaky breath. Evil tried an irreverent smile, “The gnus are the only African animals that DON’T irrationally hate us.”

Prozac sighed, “Oh, pretty sure most of that dislike is rational. Rational, deserved, and unrequited.” Evil’s lip curled and Prozac stared him down. “I know about that broken giraffe leg.”

Evil’s eyes grew round and innocent. “That was a one time accid-“

“AND the other one.”

Evil stewed, huffed, equivocated. “Not my fault they look so damn ridiculous in those giant casts. Wobbling about like a stupid human with a crutch.” He snickered, then sucked in a quick breath as the movement jostled his arm. His face whitened, alarmingly.

Prozac jumped up and ran to the back of the cave, calling up to Crack with a heated whisper. There was a pause, then Crack’s head slowly lowered under the rim of the roof hole. A beat, then Murder’s head snaked down on her slender neck. Crack’s voice was barely audible. “What?”

Ugh, i was afraid of this. Dammit, Evil. I hope he didn’t damage anything important.

@Alison: Don’t worry, you’re not old, kids just grow up fast to make you feel that way and spite you.

  2. Murphy

Hope evil doesn’t have permanent damage to his arm. he doesn’t deserve it.

Man, things are looking worse and worse. Still, holding Gimp back was a somewhat wise move- don’t want Lionel going down too quickly… Even so, these guys better have a plan B!

    Yikes! Hold on, Evil!
@Alison: Wow! I can’t believe Sam is a sophomore. They do grow up fast!

I’ve been reading Bear Nuts for years and am really sorry it’s ending. But DANG. This story arc getting darker than usual.

@Mikey: Wait- when did Alison announce that this series was coming to an end?
